Five Of The Safest Cars In The Uk
Of course, there are plenty of other factors to consider too, not least of all size, power, price, maintenance and motor insurance costs, but safety is a very important aspect of a vehicle and should not be overlooked.
With so many cars on the market, all boasting a broad array of safety features, it's hard to decide which one is the best, so here is a short list of five of the safest cars in the UK at present, in their class.
Safest family car: Audi A4
Carting your family around in a safe car is imperative, and it seems that Audi has realised the importance of safety features in family cars more than any other manufacturer. The car hugs the road well, and has been installed with adaptive airbags as an extra safety precaution. The A4 (according to the Euro NCAP) has a perfect rating of 5 for safety
Safest Small family car: Honda Civic
The Honda Civic takes the top position for the safest small family car, proving that a small car for the family doesn't have to be a death trap in the event of an accident. The Civic boasts not only an innovative interior, it's also easy to drive and has lots of room for kids, luggage and shopping. It is also one of the safest cars on the road this year, with a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. And the designers have worked to reduce emissions (but not performance) which means fuel economy and a healthier environment too.
Safest Supermini: Volkswagen Golf
The new Golf puts the super into supermini, and is also super safe. It received 97% for adult passenger protection, 84% for child protection and 61% for pedestrian protection in its Euro NCAP safety rating tests, totalling in a perfect 5 star rating. Nice one.
Safest MPV: Toyota Corolla Avensis
The Toyota Avensis is top of the list of MPV's by receiving a five-star Euro NCAP rating, no less than seven airbags are fitted as standard; two front, two side, two curtain and a knee bag to prevent the driver's legs hitting the dashboard, makes the Avensis a popular choice with safety conscience drivers.
